Western Harbour Tunnel Stage 2

Sydney, NSW

Project Description

The Western Harbour Tunnel will be the crucial second road crossing underneath Sydney Harbour, providing a western bypass of the CBD with twin three-lane tunnels to ease pressure on the Sydney road network.

Stage 2 includes tunnelling from the WestConnex Rozelle Interchange at Birchgrove to the Warringah Freeway at Cammeray. The original plans for an immersed tube tunnel were changed to a TBM methodology, with twin 1.5km drives under Sydney Harbour, to reduce impacts on the harbour and seabed. The Stage 2 scope also includes roadheader tunnelling and full fit-out of the tunnels.
